[ Part I: Getting Started ] [ Part 2 ] [ Part 3 ]
The Education of Koko, by Dr. Francine “Penny” Patterson and Eugene Linden, chronicles the first 10 years of Project Koko, starting with Koko and Dr. Penny Patterson meeting at the San Francisco Zoo to begin their life-time journey together when Koko was just 1 year old. And it follows this journey through Koko’s 11th birthday, by which she had already mastered about 1,000 words of American Sign Language.
It is a book that can be read by children of any reading age, and adults of any educational background. It presents both the personal and the scientific aspects of Project Koko, the longest-running interspecies communication study ever conducted (46 years) and the only one involving gorillas.
As a “Kid for Koko,” you are the key to waking people up to the importance of treating other intelligent species and our planet with love and respect, and ensuring a brighter future for all.
